Job Creation and Economic Development

Barbara has always worked hard to help foster a robust upstate economy that creates good jobs for New Yorkers. Tourism, Education (both Higher and PreK-12), Agriculture, Health Services and High-tech Manufacturing are integral sectors of our regional economy. Over the years, she has fought for many budget actions that support those crucial economic sectors, as well as others.

As a voting member of the Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council, Barbara is working to support projects that create jobs in both the public and private sector in her Assembly district and in our region, including the Start-up Incubator in downtown Ithaca, several affordable housing projects, the Farm to Bistro Program at TC3, and the Ithaca Commons project, among many others.

Barbara has been a strong supporter of Upstate farms, recognizing their vital importance to our both our state and country.  She co-sponsored and voted for the $30 million package for Upstate farmers when the dairy industry was taking a severe hit in 2007 due to low milk prices.  She has also fought for the restoration in the state budget of the programs at Cornell that are crucial for farming statewide.  She will continue to advocate for New York’s hard-working farmers.
